FOREST SCHOOL
We are very fortunate to have a Forest School on our school site, staffed by qualified Forest School practitioners. Nursery children are able to enjoy a variety of learning activities in the magnificent school grounds, and facilities are used to the full by the Nursery children. Our boys and girls enjoy exploring the outdoors during Forest School activities trips; trapping over the bridge like the Three Billy Goats Gruff, growing plants in the school garden and using the large play equipment speeding down the slide as they create their adventures.
Lessons in our Forest School are a highlight for all of our children, who explore nature and the changing seasons during fortnightly sessions throughout the year.
EDUCATIONAL VISIT
At Teesside High School we recognize the importance of providing an educational experience that goes beyond the normal boundaries of the classroom. With this in mind, we pride ourselves on the number and variety of trips and visits to the school by invited guests that we offer to our pupils. These broaden the children’s experiences and enhance learning.
Day trips are a regular part of school life for children in Year 1 and above, with pupils visiting art galleries, theatres, exhibitions, museums and workshops such as ‘astronaut training’. The cost of day trips is included in the school fees.
Our Integrated Studies curriculum provides ideal opportunities to take the children away on residential visits to experience learning beyond the classroom. In Year 3 the children experience a residential trip for the first time. This year, this was to Alnwick Castle. For many children this is the first time away from home, thus providing additional life skills and experiences. This is extended even further in Years 4, 5 and 6, where residential visits increase in duration. In previous years pupils have visited Normandy, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Holy Island, and Robinwood Activity Centre. Staff is always eager to provide pupils with new experiences and innovative ways to deliver a broad curriculum and engage as well as inspire the children to be curious and do their best.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
We encourage our boys and girls to immerse themselves fully in the wider life of the Prep School and to take advantage of the myriad of extra-curricular clubs. The Prep School’s Enrichment and After School Activities program provide exciting opportunities for pupils to explore new interests, as well as spend time developing existing skills. Children also benefit from mixing with children in other year groups, forming new friendships along the way.
Our activities run during lunch and after school, Monday to Friday and involve an impressive array of activities from Geocaching to Ballet, from Street Dance to Philosophy, from Military Fitness to Advanced Maths and from Critical Thinking to Forest Schools; with dozens on offer there is something for every pupil to try. Our Enrichment program takes place during the school day and affords pupils the opportunity to experience Golf, Mandarin, Badminton, and Italian Culture, to name but a few.
