In Reception and Key Stage 1, we aim to bring the curriculum to life through inspirational, cross-curricular termly themes that engage the children in their learning. Teaching is tailored to the individual needs of the children in the class and progress is monitored very carefully to ensure that we continue to build on the fantastic start the children have made in Nursery. Purposeful and well-planned trips bring our topics to life, capturing the children’s imagination and igniting their interest, whether that be through becoming budding paleontologists while fossil hunting along Saltburn beach or experiencing life as a knight at Raby Castle.
Emphasis is given to the provision of English, Mathematics, Science and learning technologies. The use of iPads is embedded in our curriculum as another method of engagement, supporting the children’s learning in all areas. Children receive specialist tuition in Physical Education, Music and French.
